A little bit about my background

Hi, I’m Angie and I’m a small business expert who works to support small independent businesses.

I started my professional career working as Senior Branch Manager for the largest independent estate agent in the South West of England.  After 15 years I decided to leave to combine my passion for interiors and selling property and set up my own home staging business.  This is where I learned more about business than anywhere else.  Why?  Because I got it all wrong.  Even though I had the knowledge and skills, I quite simply hadn’t done my research correctly.  All my work was based north of London which took me away from my family.  There wasn’t a demand in rural North Devon, or at least, not enough to sustain a business.

I needed to earn a living and returned to the corporate world to work for the UK’s largest online business directory as Operations Director where I helped streamline the company and improve productivity.

From here, I got qualified and joined a local Business Enterprise Agency, North Devon+ as a Business Advisor.  I adored my work but hated the confines of the business.  I hated timesheets, tick boxes and inflexible management.  I knew I could do better on my own.  Hence, I set up my own consultancy.

With 30+ years of experience in sales, marketing, customer service, and communication and working with literally hundreds of businesses over the years in all types of industries, there is no textbook ‘make it up as you go along’ humdrum when you work with me.

When I’m not working you are likely to find me indulging in my passions of shoes, shopping, and champagne or planning my next holiday.  On quieter days, I will be either out walking along the river or snuggled up on the sofa with my beloved furry friend, Molly the Labrador.

Why work with me?

Starting and growing a business is difficult enough without the stuffiness and drudgery of a lot of the business advice out there.  Have you ever tried to get business advice locally and ended up at your local enterprise agency across the desk from a chap in a suit who has no interest in what you do and really doesn’t understand the female psyche?  Or have you gone to a meeting where the ‘advisor’ has read a textbook but never really run a business of their own?  That to me is the same as reading a book on how to be a hairdresser but until you actually get the scissors out and get your hands dirty, you have no idea of what you are doing.

So you decide the answer lies in searching online.  But whoa!! Everyone and their dog seems to be a business coach.  How on earth to choose from them all!

There are those who again, have got fed up of the day job, read a book and decided to give themselves the label of coach or consultant but with no ground-level experience.  And then the others are all talking about you having to make six-figure incomes in the next six months.  But hang on, you would be happy to just be able to cover next month’s bills.  You are not ready for that jump to six figures just yet.

You think you may have just found someone but when you get to speak to them (if they allow that and don’t just hide behind a computer screen) they are sooooooo serious!  Yes, business is a serious matter but come on, lighten up just a little.

And then there is me!  Yes, I am going to blow my own trumpet because I am absolutely fabulous and bloody good at what I do. 

And I do it all with a large injection of fun!  Life and business are too short to get hooked up being miserable.  And the guaranteed way to be miserable?  Take the fun out of what you are doing.

  • I have run both large and small businesses, been highly successful and fallen foul of some big mistakes that were hard, but incredibly valuable. I have been there and got the tee-shirt (many times over).  I have cried a lot and laughed often.
  • I have worked as a business advisor in full-time employment and through this helped literally hundreds of small businesses from start-ups to multi-million-pound corporations. Whichever end of the scale I have worked at, I like to think I have brought something different to the table and helped people find ways to achieve results with as much enjoyment as possible. I also represented female led business at Downing Street.
  • I now run my own successful consultancy which provides me with an income that allows me to enjoy the little luxuries I enjoy in life including travelling, eating out at some fabulous establishments and shopping for shoes and handbags! I work damned hard but believe my success really came through for me when I started to get the right mindset, get organised and put the fun back into my day.
